Have the 1.5 diesel, done 2500 miles. Either I'm paranoid or I can hear a rattle/raspy noise when I'm going up through the gears, applying acceleration etc to get up into top gear.
Haven't had a diesel before so it might just be the raspy sort of noise that diesels make. Don't want to go into the dealership service department sounding like a 'mad woman', as I hate trying to explain myself when I don't know any technical names. But noises on cars bug the life out me.

Know what you mean about noises - they drive me mad too, however, diesels do sound very different to petrol engines and if this is your first diesel, then this may be the route of your problem.
If you are concerned with it though, go back to your dealer and explain that you are not happy with the noise when moving up the gears. Get it checked out if you are not happy. Don't worry about the dealer - you have paid a lot of money to make sure that such things get sorted in accordance with the guarantee.

Thanks for the reassurance, I suppose lots of people, as not motor mechanically trained, can only explain faults sometimes by noise or how they make the car feel.

So is mine but it does not make these noises. Always have it checked out.

I have a funny noise with mine that's also gear box related. It's only a faint noise heard when the windows are down. The best way to decribe thus:When you are going down hill on a bicycle, so you're not peddling and the gears make the clicking noise...

It's that noise. The car is in on the 5th July to find out what is rattling around in the boot lid so I'll ask them to drive it and check it's ok.

I bet you it's the rear seat belt buckles touching the plastic.

When no-one is in the back I keep my rear belts done up!

ditto...I move the backseats forward everytime I go golfing...and found it was impossible to keep the plastic and belt apart ,so did them up...also find that the front passenger belt can hit the plastic when not in use...easily moved though

It sounds like I have that same faint noise. I can only hear it if the windows are down. I'll be interested to find out what they say why you take it in. Keep us posted.

Sounds goes away when press down on the clutch.

yes i know what you mean my diesel has only done 150 miles and i hear a slaping type noise when i accelerate auto box renault fitter drove it and heard it and said it might be fuel....salesman drove it and said it sounds like turbo ..rac drove it and said its just a good old diesel sound i said but its not a good old diesel its a brand new one...this is my 3rd diesel and the others, same engine were great smooth and no noises or knocks its no waiting to go back into the workshop for a proper health check......what a load of crap

James,you are not going mad,refer to my posts and it may help you,i have owned diesel cars since the 80's and this Captur auto is not right........my previous Captur was spot on.
