No easy way.Have to go thru wire loom at top of tailgate.
Cable to left side behind boot light.

Lift tail two bolts on bottom edge removed with ratchet and extension bar. Then spatular or similar to prize off cover from clips. Not done it but watched man that can. Did not take him very long!!! That's as I remember it. It's not difficult if you can find all the fasteners.

Funily enough I am fitting it now. If you remove the vent cover on the left hand side of the luggagecompartment, there is a cable bundle. You will need to release the two cable clamps to get access to the cables, the mauve with white stripe cable is the reverse cable. I ran a cable from fuse 14 and put a relay in this compartment. The cable run from there to the tailgate is a pain in the a**e. I am now at the top of the tailgate and this weekend hope to get it completed, subject to weather.

Thanks for the info, let us know how you get on . I intend to have a go when the weather gets warmer.I was hoping to fish to the top of the tailgate with thin wire.

Oh don't forget any pictures.Edited by: Houstahousey

All working now. The cover on the back of the tailgate pulled off easily (after removing the 4 screw). Ran the cable to the headlining, up through the rubber tubing to the tailgate. I removed the rubber bung on the left side to make it easier to fish the cables to the bottom of the tailgate. I hope that this helps.

Yes I was looking at the number plate holder with camera, But the hard wired kits with holder seem to have disappeared on eBay. Plenty with wireless control have this facility , but really wanted hard wired as ( I'm informed ) can loose the signal in certain area's.

Because I had to run a power cable from the front to the back of the car I decided to run the signal cable too, so I did not use the wireless connection.

The Controller Area Network (CAN, also known as CAN Bus) is a vehicle bus standard designed to allow electronic control units and devices to communicate with each otgher in applications without a host computer.8 Dec 2015

No I don't understand it either! I think we should have stuck to valves (or steam)

It's a way that the manufacturers have so that there is more to go wrong and they can sting you for massive repair bills. What's the matter with a switch, cable and bulb?

Well at least it's a standard comms system allied to the motor vehicle manufactures. Modern day auto electricians are trained to carry out fault analysis and software updates etc using a standard working platform, It makes sense... remember Betamax, VHS and Philips 2000!! all recorded tv programs but all functioned by virtue of their own none compatible tecnical designs.

The Can-bus system has been used on aircraft for at least 20 years ,so it's a reliable system, it is really used for reliability ,cost saving and weight saving because it uses a greatly reduced number of wires , as an example the Airbus A380 uses over 300 miles of wiring weighing about 5 - 6 tons !<a href="chrome-extension://fcdjadjbdihbaodagojiomdljhjhjfho/css/atd.css" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Without using can-bus technology that weight would much , much , more !!

For cars it has the advantages of less wires used, cost saving and it makes the fitting of lane assist, electric handbrake ,auto-stop start etc much easier and cheaper , cars have used this system since about 1990 and I think Mercedes were the first to use it in the late 80's . The removal of switches and rotary controls from the dashboard in cars and replacing them with the horrible screens makes the cars easier to build and much simpler to modify the systems for the different markets .

I like the can-bus system for fault detection, ( with the correct test gear) it's much simpler , but for the private owner the situation is not so rosy , you are tied to the Dealer or a very good specialist electronics Company for help !!

By the way , I've written the above from memory , so apologies for any errors.

Don't worry ,just remember the 4 year guarantee !!
