Hi Ebenzer, because the USB slot is on the front/top of the screen a lot of people use a micro SD card mounted in a SD to USB adapter these take up less room as opposed to a full size USB flash drive sticking out of the dash also much lighter, with the vibration of vehicle movement the size/weight of a standard flash drive can eventually wear/damage the port. I believe this is what your mate's wife meant by removing the SD card, you need to down load Renault medianav toolbox this gives you all the info you require to up date your system, its a straight forward process that only takes 10 mins top's, there are also various videos on line showing you what to do. The updates are generally limited to software/system and debugging but Renault do at times put out freebies but you need to be registered with Medianav to get the links, I don't know weather they just randomly send out updates but we've had a couple in the last 2 years, the last one was March this year and that included all the latest UK/Ireland maps plus updated post codes and they threw in full maps of Europe as well, all that being said, it's the wife's car and she's still an expert at getting lost.

Hi Ebenezer my wife's Captur is 2016 1.5 DCI Media-Nav, the Media-Nav book/instructions that came with the car shows both systems, 1 the screen with the volume USB slot and auxiliary at the top and 2 the screen with volume USB etc on the right hand side, there is no reference to an SD slot on either system, the wife's is type 1 (vol etc on the top) and that certainly does not have an SD slot.

Memory sticks - flash drives - SD cards are all just storage devices, they all do the same job, the SD adaptor/card plugged into the wife has 100 + albums on it so you still have your music plus they are smaller/lighter than a memory stick, you will also find that memory size for size an SD card is usually a good bit cheaper than the same memory capacity memory stick.

When you update your system you remove whatever memory device/music storage that is plugged into the screen and plug in a clean (empty no files) memory device (either memory stick or adaptor/SD card) the full system information on your media unit is downloaded on the memory device (software edition maps etc) you unplug it from the car and plug it into your PC USB and run the Media-Nav toolbox prog this then examines what is in your media unit and then checks for any updates, if updates are available these are put onto the memory device plugged in to your PC, remove the device from the PC and pug it back into the car, the new information/updates are automatically uploaded into the media unit, when finished unplug the device and put your music one back in and hey-presto updated and back listening to your tunes.

A full step by step of the above is shown in the Media-Nav toolbox programme.

Me again, it just clicked you keep mentioning R-link, is yours an R-link system, the R-link system does have an SD slot but not on the head unit, I believe that Clio's with R-link the SD slot is in the facia just in front of the gear stick, if you do have the R-link system look on google to find the location of the remote SD slot on the Captur
