A bit of an enigma:
What map version do you have in R-link?
How the maps update works in R-link?

Attempt to solve it:

Any support concerning Renault R-Link devices is provided by Renault. This also includes the navigation features. The navigation part uses TomTom software, but this device is supported solely by Renault.

<div style="color: rgb80, 0, 80; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: auto; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-trans: none; white-space: normal; widows: auto; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; : rgb255, 255, 255;">in R-link manual (page 27)
<div style="color: rgb80, 0, 80; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: auto; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-trans: none; white-space: normal; widows: auto; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; : rgb255, 255, 255;">

<div style="color: rgb80, 0, 80; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: auto; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-trans: none; white-space: normal; widows: auto; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; : rgb255, 255, 255;">Guaranteed the latest mapAfter the delivery of your new car, you can upgrade your maps for free for a certain period.after this period, you must pay for each update. Please check your dealer for more information.

In
fact we have no 90 daysmap update guarantee that comes normally with
any new TomTom product or in R-link it works in different way.
My current map version is v9.06. I am not sure if it was any update since I got a car. At least I am not aware of any. There is no any new update available (free or chargable).

Some
R-link users noticed that any new map that is released on the TomTom
website is approximately 2 months later available for renault clients.
This observation is interesting. What we can find in TomTom page.

<table ="table" style="border-collapse: collapse; border-spacing: 0.3em; color: rgb84, 84, 84; font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 16px; orphans: auto; text-align: left; text-indent: 0px; text-trans: none; white-space: normal; widows: auto; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; : rgb255, 255, 255;" border="1" width="55%"><t><tr><th style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; font-style: normal; font-weight: bold; text-align: center;" width="40%">Version on device</th><th style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; font-style: normal; font-weight: bold; text-align: center;" width="40%">Month of release</th></tr><tr><th colspan="2" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; font-style: normal; font-weight: bold; text-align: center;" ="#BDD731">2013</th></tr><tr><td style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"><div style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" align="center">915
</td><td style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"><div style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" align="center">August
</td></tr><tr><td style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"><div style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" align="center">910
</td><td style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"><div style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" align="center">May
</td></tr><tr></tr><tr><td style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"><div style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" align="center">905
</td><td style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"><div style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" align="center">March
</td></tr></t></table>
So it means I have a version not listed in TomTom.
Does renault delivers its own versions for R-link?

I would appreciate any explanation

I got an answer from renault. TomTom maps for R-link are dedicated for this device exclusively and current version 906 is the last one. If there is any update it will be available in My renault account in update section and in R-link pannel we find info about new version. If it is within 90 day period it is for free. Later it will be chargable. It looks that 906 version in R-link is an equivalent for TomTom 915 version. This one was released in August. Next one should be available by the end of the year. Maybe in November. Taking into account that there is 2 months delay (reported by some users of R-link) we can expect next version for R-link
in January or February. Will see.

I'm guessing that there is no map update service for rlink like normal tomtoms. From what I can see from the rlink store you have to buy a new map each time for 69 euros

Have I missed something?

There's bound to be a chargeable update service; I am sure that Renault are only too keen to milk their customers to stay up-to-date

As I have mentioned above R-link is not supported by TomTom directly. We can update maps only in R-link store (My Renault account). The maps available there (in my case) are not for update - there are some additional maps, just for some regions. Since I got a car in October 2013 it was ONE general update of R link system in February or March this year (it took some 30 minutes) but I am not sure it included also any maps update (my current version is v906.v4881; TomTom maps current version is v.9.25 - it means it was two updates since August last year from v.9.15).For Poland some new parts of highways opened in last months of 2013 are not present so far in my maps. There is not any option to udate maps in My renault (free or paid). It means R-link is well behind original TomTom.
If you have any other and more positive information concerning maps update in R-link I would appretiate to know.

Today in the R-Link store I've seen that when one wants to buy Full Europe map it is v.930, so a newer one that came shipped with my Captur, I cannot buy it however as it says that I do not have enough space on SD Card. When I try to manage my SD card using the manage your products menu in the R-Link store it does not allow me to "uninstall" the previous map - the checkbox next to it is selected and greyed out. So it seems that there finally is a map update for R-Link users, just no way for us to install it...

I've just downloaded my "free" map update (I've only had the car for 2 weeks) from R-Link and all appears to be well. However, the down load took over an hour. Now to put the card back in the car.Can anyone give me an idea how long it will take to upload in the Car as it states that I must keep the engine running during the operation.
BTW, the map version is 9.60.
I'm not sure how up to date these things are as a road in my town that was changed to dual carriageway 5 years ago is still shown as a single carriageway.

It should take less than 5 minutes - I did mine on a short local journey when I didn't need the satnav or the radio; started the car, set the update going then just drove towards my destination. The update was completed before I arrived

Well it took about half an hour (including about 3 re-boots) but eventually it worked! And the "single" carriageway is now a dual carriageway with all the latest road names. So it was worth it.

Now when I boot up my laptop I get a message from R-Link to tell me that there are updates available. I don't think I'll go there for a while.

I haven't heard a peep from Renault in over a week about my problem, I think they're hoping it sorts it self out.Your best option seeing as TOMTOM are cheaper is to contact them with your worries about the western Europe map they are offering. Although it is reported as being V9.05 once you've installed it you should get the quarterly map updates for 12 months from them so it should update to V9.2 as that is the latest map offered by them on there web site.Renault appear to be about as much use as a chocolate fireguard on the whole R-Link business full stop.
