my renault captur tce 100 from nov 2020
from time to time has showing this annoying behavior:
  • the ODOMETER reset automatically suddenly;
  • the dim light goes to factory inicial configuration
  • the instruments pannel (main pannel) no longer shows information on upper right and upper left after this sudden reset.
its a very strange behavior, like some bug or glitch.

anyone has notice this kind of behavior?
Thank you.

Welcome to the forum. This curious behaviour is well-known and also well-documented on this forum. Some people get some of them, others all of them. I've experienced all of them from time to time, but mostly the automatic resetting of the odometers top left and top right. It could be battery-related, but who knows? The Renault Dealership of course had never heard of it before! Lying b**ta*ds. I've learnt to live with it, the rest is good.

Thank you. I bought the Captur on november 2020. I do experience this odometer issue randomly 4 times.
I dont know what it is... i think it is some kind of software programming faulty.
I dont care about it. The odometer proves to be erratic and doing so it not reliable anymore. maybe renault fix it on the sofware update.
I find in this forum many Captur owners complaint about trip computer issues... so i am not alone.
That been said i will contact my dealer to be aware, but i dont expect any solution cause it is randomly and it is very difficult to prove except if occurs in determined circumstances.
I think it is annoying, but i can live with that until renault recognizes and recall the vehicles that have this issues.
Best regards

From my experience the odometer resetting is caused by operator error whilst scrolling the menu. I've found that by just using just the "down" arrow the menu scroll response is instant but with the "up" arrow it takes a few presses and if you hold the button too long in the "odometer" position it resets the reading.

oh. fantastic! i will try it right away. I was the feel8ng that reset occurs by pressing buttons on the steering wheel, cause i often click up just to navigate between consumption and odometer. it makes perfectly sense to me. Thank very much.

Hi
the user manual captur says
"Automatic resetting of the journey parameters:
Resetting occurs automatically when the maximum value of any of the parameters is exceeded."

I notice that auto reseting trip maybe occurs when average consumption is rising up and stuck at a highers values (exemole 11L/100). In my experience i just do urban circuit and rarely open roads. So i do travel for short distances (<6 km).
I found that OK key (on the steering wheel) and de Up or Down have the same behavior if pressed long than 2 seconds: reseting trip computer.
I do notice that when i do a manual reseting trip it goes to zero but i still have the information about the music i am listening, but this information is completed reset (blank) when the car itself performs a automatically trip reset.
I assumption that there is no malfunctioning cause engineers make it that way (automation the reset trip) what is absurd and makes completely waisted this trip computer.
I was aware that average consumption was useless in most of the cars. now i am sure that this kind of information is completely useless. I just ignore it.
To know the trip consumption i installed an app in my smarphone where i insert the total KM indicating on the car instruments pannel every time i fill the car fuel tank. Then the app calculates the average trip consumption with the difference on KM between the filled fuel tank and the fuel litters necessary to fill the car fuel tank.

I jyst came from anual vehicle servicing and they were aware about the trip computer issue. They fixed it. I will make 600km and i will monitoring the trip computer and see if it is really fixed.
Stay tune.
I will let you know about this personal experience.

Hello again

I said i will post again to let you know about the odometer issue.
On my last post i was told from Renault thar odometer was fix.
Last week the odometer reseted automatically and doing so it only counted 1.600 Km.
Unfortunately today it reseted again from nothing.
I don't trust in the Renault Captur Odometer. In my car it reveals to be very randomly inaccurate. The is a problem that i cant figured out. I dont care, it is very faulty and unreliable. Sorry guys, you engendered it wrong. Its a shame.
Regards

Hi my 2020 Captur has been doing this reset since owning the thing and it is still not fixed. Reset both the top left and top right displays randomly. The reset happens upon entry to the vehicle.

I have had many 'updates', completed to the car from the Renault Garage and seems that they either dont know how to fix it or turning a blind eye because I have seen this issue come up plently of times on here.

I am starting to think its a battery issue or some sort of power connectivity issue that wipes the memory?

Really pushing for a fix now after 2 years!

Hi
Unfortunately the garage renault did some sort of update in the sistem but the issue is on going.
Actually i reset de odometer every morning to know exactly how many km i do each day. Everyday reseting is better than nothing.
I don't know why renault doesn't solve this random odometer resetting...

Today they found a 'loose transit fuse' so lets see if this has been missed for the last 2yrs and I finally have a fix! 🤞

My battery also was found to only have 40% charge too!

They charged it overnight but it has not got stop/start working. Next step charge it for a whole day. Maybe I will get a new battery before the warrenty expires next year 😂

A fuse and battery makes all sense to me.
Lets see if it solves the issue.
My Capture was updated on 10.11.2021 and the odometer auto reseted in February 2022. So i thought that Renault didn't understood the issue.
Dont forget to update us and let us know about the issue if it happens again.
Good Luck!

I would suggest that if you are having an issue with battery charge level and stop-start not working, if you have access to an electricity outlet when your car is parked, you buy a C-Tec smart charger with reconditioning and AGM battery compatability. I have no connection with that company other than as a satisfied customer. I've now reconditioned 4 vehicles in our family with it, and in each case it has improved the car's starting performance. Three of the cars have S/S systems that weren't always working when I would have expected them to; after being conditioned with the charger, their S/S systems all worked as expected, operating after just a couple of miles of driving when the engines hadn't fully warmed up. I bought after online research and finding that my old charger (must have had it for well over 20 years) was not suitable for use with modern start-stop batteries
