Hi my in laws have a new captur 2024, and have the attached warning message. I cant find any information about this online, does anyone have any guidance or know what this is.
Hi and welcome - It's not a warning I've ever seen, but have they checked all the bulbs, to see if one has gone? Apologies if this is too basic a response, but sometimes the obvious answer is the answer.
If they've already done that, I'll get me thinking cap on!
We have the same fault after much head scratching at dealership fault has been reported to Renault, apparently it is only on UK Renaults, new sensor chips need to be fitted. Apparently these are being ordered but who knows when they will arrive!
The fault occurs when the automatic lights come on and then go back off, ie driving through a tunnel.
Hi just seen your post. Here is my story I just bought a brand new Renault captur Esprit Alpine 5 weeks ago I went to take delivery at the arranged time so after signing all relevant paperwork and transferring cash I was informed that there's an issue with the pre-delivery and the fault is the exact same as yours. I was assured it was an over the air update which the Renault Network was down at the moment and as soon as it's up and running th e issue will be rectified. 5 days later warning lights still coming on every time every time I'd drive through a darkend area on the road ie "a line of trees for instance during the day" Took it back to the Renault dealer and was informed it needed a new part ' UPC UNIT' problem now fixed....
Hi there everyone, first time poster here. We took delivery of a brand new Captur esprit Alpine at end of December (in the Uk) we’ve had this exact same warning message from day 2.
“Warning: Check lights”
I’ve taken it to my Renault dealer to fix it with no luck so far.
Can I ask anyone else who has had this for more of an explanation as to how you got this fixed permanently? I predict the Warning: Check lights message will re-appear any moment. All help appreciated
Renault Dealer told me the UPC unit is on back order which they informed me they couldn't give me a date when this would arrive. Not Good Enough . I told the dearship that I was wanting a full refund because the car was under 30 days and I phoned Renault Customer Service as well... So what do you know the new part arrived 4 days later straight from France.. Don't take any crap off them and use your consumer rights..
Welcome! The post immediately before yours says that a new 'UPC unit' was fitted by the dealer and it solved the problem. Have you mentioned this to your dealer? If not, it might be a good idea to print out the relevant posts from this thread and go back, armed with the information. Not all dealerships know as much as forum members, especially if it's an issue they've never encountered before.
Apparently the UPC is the Underbonnet Switching Unit.
I got a UPC unit fitted way back in October the fault I was getting was when the automatic lights were coming on the fault appeared on the dashboard.. now fixed no issues for over 2 months now..
Way back on October 17th 2024 a UPC unit was replaced on my Renault Captur Alpine Esprit now on the 20th of February the exact same issue has appeared yet again. Car has been booked in on 3rd March I'll keep this post updated. Let's just say this will be the last ever Renault I'll ever buy.
Strange as this may seem, when I took mine back the first time they said “the fuse just needed clicked it”, about 5 days later same error occurred. 2nd time they said the unit needed cleaned. (Brand new car and all that)
That was around 2 months ago and so far so good but I have a strong suspicion it’s going to return. The “fix” applied was so light in nature.
Quick update on my Renault Captur Esprit Alpine. After 5 months of care free driving the automatic headlights fault happened again this was after a new UPC unit was replaced under warranty. The car was back in at the dealership to get fixed again as it turned out this UPC unit had to be replaced yet again 'fixed again' hopefully this will be the end of this issue...
