Just had an email supposedly from Renault about a data leak which to me looks genuine but you never know these days. I’ve Not clicked on any links And it’s says you can’t reply to it anyway.Anyone else had one?

We are very sorry to inform you about a cyber-attack on one of our third-party providers, leading to some Renault UK customers’ personal data being taken from one of their systems.

The third-party provider established that your data was included, which means the attackers have access to some or all of the following information:
First name & surname
Date of birth
Gender
Phone number
Email address
Postal address
Vehicle Identification Number
Vehicle registration number
We do not hold any financial details for you, so no bank details formed part of the cyber-attack.
what measures are we taking?
The third-party has confirmed that this was an isolated incident, which has now been contained and removed. We are working closely with them to ensure that all appropriate actions are being taken. We have notified all relevant authorities.

It is important to note that the data was taken from a third-party provider and that none of our own systems have been compromised.
what should you do?
Be cautious of any unsolicited requests for personal information, especially requests made by email or phone.

You should never share your passwords online or on the phone – Renault UK will never ask you for this information.

I wish Renault would be more transparent and informative about this. How concerned do I need to be? Precisely which of my details have been hacked? Where from? It's not good enough to provide a list of items that might have been revealed - I have a right to know specific details, but there's not even a phone number to ring. Bloody useless.

I think you have to assume everything they’ve included as a possibility is more like definitely. Of course it’s frustrating but so would it be if they provided a phone number - with possibly a few hundred thousand people affected, can you believe you’d have any chance of getting your call answered?
the only crumb of comfort is that they don’t hold any financial details!!

I got a text message yesterday as others have recently posted regarding the third-party data security breach. Unfortunately it's a sad reflection on modern tomes thatt here are so many dishonest organisations around, and the Police forces and related authorities worldwide don't seem that bothered about doing something to clean the world up
